As a child, John Chalfant was intrigued by sound. While others chased baseballs, John created radio plays, complete with home made sound effects, on a reel-to-reel recorder. His passion for sound design grew when he discovered an electric guitar and his teen years were spent endlessly coaxing the most interesting sounds out of sound boxes, tin cans and over dubs. While he played in bands for fun, he studied computer science in college but his passion was still in sound. Early work in a recording studio led Chalfant to discover digital recording and ever since he’s followed his love of recording and manipulating audio for the emotional impact of film. Directors love John’s creative approach to sound while producers enjoy his ability to do more and stay under budget. His close association with Sony Pictures allows John access to their highly acclaimed mixing facilities.
